Typh Barrow grandit à Bruxelles en se faisant appeler « Monsieur » au téléphone, tant sa voix est singulière. Elle débute le piano à 5 ans, le solfège à 8 ans et l'écriture de ses premières chansons à 12 ans.
Compositrice, auteur, instrumentiste, interprète, la jeune artiste a plus d’une corde à son arc.
Dans son parcours, elle avoue que la découverte de Master Blaster
de Stevie Wonder l'a particulièrement marquée. D’ailleurs, le vieux
tourne-disque de son père s’en souvient encore puisque c’est en y
expérimentant pour la première fois les 33 tours qu’elle l’endommagea, dès lors contrainte à s’en servir en cachette.
C'est ainsi qu'elle éduqua son oreille musicale avec, entre autres,
les vinyles de Bill Withers, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Marvin Gaye,
Randy Crawford et Bobby Mc Ferrin.
Arpentant les scènes, bars et festivals en solo avec son piano depuis l’âge de 14 ans, elle se fait rapidement repérer par son manager et enregistre ses premiers titres studio à 16 ans, avant d'intégrer le Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles en Jazz.
Entre pop, soul et accents jazz, ce projet à la sensualité ravageuse est un petit bijou qui fait assurément de Typh Barrow l’une des plus belles révélations de cette année.
Typh Barrow grew up in Brussels, being called “Sir” on the phone, as her voice always was so singular & unique. She started learning to play piano at the age of 5, solfege at 8 & wrote her first songs at 12.
Songwriter, author, instrumentalist, performer, the young artist wears many hats.
In her career, she admits that the discovery of Stevie Wonder’s song « Master Blaster » particularly marked her. She can’t tell if it was because it was too emotional or because it was the first time she was experimenting the LP’s, but she damaged on this occasion her father old collectable turntable. Henceforth she had to use it secretly, which is how she educated her musical ear, listening to the vinyls of Bill Withers, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Marvin Gaye, Randy Crawford & Bobby Mc Ferrin.
Carrying her piano around with her on stages, in bars, in festivals since she is 14, she was quickly spotted by her manager. She recorded her first studio tracks at the age of 16, before joining the Jazz section of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
In a "Blue Eyed Soul" music style, between powerful ballads & groovy rhythms, Typh Barrow with her smoky voice is certainly one of the most beautiful revelations of this year.
